Adverse Occurrence type:
Very few reports in the literature; only two documented instances of anti-treponemal antibody seroconversion in SOT recipients, all asymptomatic. Recipients received antimicrobial prophylaxis
Time to detection:
Alerting signals, symptoms, evidence of occurrence:
Seropositive donor ; seronegative recipient; Anti-treponemal seroconversion;
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
Possible, with anti-treponemal antibody seroconversion (EIA, TTPA 1:1280, RPR 1:2). Discussion regarding possibility of transfer of donor lymphocytes (microchimerism) and/or passive acquisition of donor antibodies as explanation for seroconversion. Donor with positive treponemal serology (reactive EIA, TPPA 1:20,480), negative VDRL and IgM).
