Donor derived adult T-cell leukaemia in a 55 year old woman after a non myeloablative peripheral blood stem cell transplant. The stem cells had been harvested from her brother, an asymptomatic carrier of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1).
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
XY-FISH showed an XY genotype of the tumour cells, suggesting that they had originated from the donated leucocytes.
