Major complications occurred in 17% of patients undergoing therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). No fatalities, central venous catheter-related complications, sepsis attributed to central venous catheter, hematoma. Plasma-related complications include: respiratory distress, fluid overload. Minor complications in 34% of patients: urticaria, dyspnea responding to nasal cannula oxygen, hypotension responding to fluid administration.
