2 frozen femoral head recipients tested positive for HIV antibodies during routine testing.
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
In both cases the confirmed infections were attributed incorrectly to blood transfusions. The HIV-1 infection was confirmed subsequently to have been transmitted by the organs during an investigation of all recipients from that donor following the detection of HIV transmisssion to a bone recipient.
