Hepatitis B Virus (HBV)

Record number:
551
Adverse Occurrence type:
MPHO Type:
Time to detection:
10 weeks
Alerting signals, symptoms, evidence of occurrence:
Recipient developed jaundice after bone graft surgery
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
Possible. Hepatitis developed after bone grafting surgery. No blood transfusions received and no other potential source of infection identified therefore assumed to have been transmitted by the bone. However, imputability is not proven as there was no testing available for hepatitis at the time and the donor's medical history had no reference to jaundice or hepatitis.
