Adverse Occurrence type:
Time to detection:
5 - 23 weeks
Alerting signals, symptoms, evidence of occurrence:
Several studies prospectively followed seronegative kidney transplant recipients of seropositive donors. In sum they report on 48 kidney transplant recipients of which 2 had symptomatic disease (fever 5 and 23 weeks post-transplant); 6 had positive blood smears from trypanosomes post-transplant, all of which received treatment
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
Likely T cruzi transmission since donors were T cruzi seropositive and recipients seronegative at time of transplant
