Record number:

Adverse Occurrence type:
MPHO Type:
Estimated frequency:
Time to detection:
35 days - 4 months
Alerting signals, symptoms, evidence of occurrence:
Leg paresthesias, coldness and reduced pulse developed day 35 after transplant in one kidney recipient and 4 months postop in the other kidney recipient. Surgery in both showed Aspergillus spp infected pseodoaneurysm of the iliac artery.
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
Level 1: unlikely. Authors concluded that the Aspergillus-infected iliac artery pseudoaneurysms were not transmitted from the donor because the liver and heart recipient did not get infected and no aspergillus infection was known in the donor. They thought the infection might be from use of contaminated perservation fluids.
