Expert comments for publication:
The purpose of the study is to show positive results of applying the Guidelines of the Italian National Transplant Centre in regard to donors with neoplasia. No tumor transmissions were seen with organ transplants from 48 donors with neoplasia considered suitable by their criteria. No details are provided regarding tumor stage, degree of differnetiation, etc, so further conclusions are limited. The tumor types present in donors whose organs were utilized include: thyroid carcinoma, prostate carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, oncocytoma, meningioma, dermatofibrosarcoma, verrucous vulvar carcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, grade II astrocytoma, adrenal gland tumor, gastric GIST, and oligodendroglioma. The average followup was reported as 56.14 months.
