Record number:

Adverse Occurrence type:
MPHO Type:
Alerting signals, symptoms, evidence of occurrence:
Seroconversion. Follow up of 1 to 10 years has not demonstrated HTLV I related symptoms.
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
This retrospective study was not designed to explore donor-derived transmission of HTLV I and no details were provided to explore imputability. From 1985 through 1997, 152 renal transplants were performed in Okinawa, 15 recipients tested (9.9%) positive for HTLV I antibodies. Preoperative HTLV I titers revealed 8 positive and 6 negative recipients, who seroconverted after transplantation. One patient’s preoperative status was unknown. No molecular studies available. Follow-up times range from 1 year and 11 months to 10 years and 4 months, with no observed HTLV I related disease in any of the patients to date.
Imputability grade:
1 Possible
