Transfusion-transmitted sepsis is the most frequent infectious complication in transfusion, especially in platelets which are stored at room temperature, but is relatively rare as a cause of transfusion reaction overall.

Confirmed; by study inclusion, organism was cultured from unit and from recipient, and isolates were indistinguishable by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis.
